Join accomplished Los Angeles actors Michael Bofshever, Klea Scott, and Ethan Philips as they discusses a variety of questions pertaining to the many aspects of what it takes to succeed and live the life of a working actor. They will address such topics as the Foundation to Having a Career, Audition Know How, Life on Set, Agents and Managers, as well as share stories from Michael Bofshever's recently published book Your Face Looks Familiar.....How To Get Ahead as a Working Actor.

MODERATOR:

Michael Bofshever is an accomplished actor, teacher and author for over thirty years. He has appeared in countless episodic television shows, most recently multiple appearances on True Blood, Breaking Bad, The Shield, Desperate Housewives, NYPD Blue, The Practice. He was a series regular on the hit Disney Chanel series The Jersey(56 episodes). Michaels most notable film work was in the critically acclaimed United 93. A partial list of film credits include Certifiably Jonathon (Winters), Dirty Deeds, Bruce Almighty, Crime of the Century, The Fan and House Broken.  He was a founding member of The Actors Producing Company in New York City where he trained with the legendary acting teacher Michael Howard. He has made stage appearances in New York City, Los Angeles and regional theater. Notably in Al Pacino's Richard III at the Theatre Co. of Boston, Taper Too Festival, and Emelin Theatre. He has appeared in hundreds of commercials during his career.

Michael has been profiled as "one of the finest acting coaches in Los Angeles,"The Actors Guide to Qualified Acting Teachers, (Smith & Kraus). He is the author of Your Face Looks Familiar...How To Get Ahead as a Working Actor (Heinemann Drama Press). He is the creator of an inspiring and informational seminar The Journey of the Working Actor which he has conducted throughout the acting guild branches in the country as well as university and film institute programs nationwide. Currenty Mr. Bofshever is an adjunct faculty member of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He will return to teaching his ongoing scene study class in September, 2009.

Ethan Phillips ’76 – His NY stage credits include David Mamet’s “November,” (Barrymore), “My Favorite Year” (Lincoln Center), “Measure For Measure” (Public Theatre at the Delacourte), “Lips Together Teeth Apart” (Manhattan Theatre Club), “Modiglianni” (Astor Place). Regionally, he has performed at the Pasadena Playhouse, The Geffen, Mark Taper, Old Globe Theatre, Seattle Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Westport Country Playhouse, Boston Shakespeare Co., Actors’ Theatre of Louisville and McCarter Theatre. Ethan spent 10 summers at Sundance Playwrights Lab. His play “Penguin Blues” has had hundreds of productions in the US and Canada.  His over thirty films include “The Island,” “Bad Santa,” “Man Without a Face,” “The Shadow,” “Green Card,” “Lean on Me” and “Glory.”  On television, scores of guest-star roles as well as ABC’s “Benson” for five seasons and “Star Trek: Voyager” for seven seasons.

Erick Avari-During his 30 years as an actor, Erick Avari has consistently turned in finely crafted performances, from grand opera to soap opera, with stops on and Off Broadway, in regional theaters, in some of the highest grossing films in the past two decades, on hit television series and in award-winning independent films.

Avari is instantly recognizable from his roles in blockbuster films ranging from the comedic Mr. Deeds, opposite Adam Sandler; to sci fi epics such as The Mummy, with Rachel Weisz and Brandon Fraser; Stargate, with Kurt Russell and James Spader; Independence Day, starring Will Smith, and Daredevil, as Jennifer Garner’s father. He has also lent his talents to critically acclaimed dramatic roles in film festival favorites American East, with Tony Shalhoub; Dark Matter, starring Meryl Streep; Three Days of Rain, with Peter Falk and Blythe Danner; and Choose Conner, with Steven Weber.
Since his Hollywood debut in Kevin Reynold’s The Beast of War, he has been fortunate to work with some of the most honored film directors of the time, including Mike Nichols, Tim Burton, Lasse Hallström and Satyajit Ray. 
Born in Darjeeling, India, Avari attended European boarding schools before attending university in the US. He launched a distinguished career on the New York stage that included leading roles in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” (directed by Tony winner A.J. Antoon), “’Tis Pity She’s a Whore” (directed by Mabou Mines founder Joanne Akalaitis) and “A Map of the World” (written and directed by David Hare) at the Joseph Papp Public Theater, as well as the classic musical “The King and I” on Broadway.
