CAPNY - FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Casting Access Project?

The Casting Access Project is a program designed to offer Screen Actors Guild members access to casting directors through workshops and other events at no cost, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills and learn from highly respected professionals.

How can the SAG Foundation offer this program for free?

The Casting Access Project is made possible through a grant from the INDUSTRY ADVANCEMENT COOPERATIVE FUND (IACF). Governed by a joint board of Guild members and management trustees, the IACF's mission is to provide financial support for programs that advance the well being of the entertainment industry.

Who is eligible to participate?

Unless otherwise noted, SAG members eighteen years of age or over, in good standing, who have participated in a CAP Orientation Session are eligible to participate. These instructional presentations will be offered to SAG members once every four months. After they have completed an Orientation Session, the member's information will be placed on a CAP-Eligible list. Unless otherwise noted, only those members on the CAP-Eligible list may reserve spaces for upcoming CAP workshops and events.

Are there limits to participation?

Are there limits to participation? Although current terms and conditions of participation are subject to change, CAP-eligible members may attend workshops no more than once every ninety (90) days. Because the classes can only accommodate a limited number of performers, periodically, we will also be holding additional casting industry panel discussions and other larger events to accommodate greater numbers of interested members.

How do I register for a Cold Reading Workshop once I have attended the Orientation Session?

You may register online at this website.

How often are workshops offered?

Currently, audition and cold reading workshops are offered five to eight times a month.

Will I get work from participating in The Casting Access Project?

Attending a CAP workshop offers absolutely no guarantee of employment.

Hasn't SAG been offering casting workshops for quite a while?

Yes. Over the years, the SAG Casting Committee has brought a wealth of casting directors to work with SAG members in workshops and showcases. The Casting Access Project is an effort to expand upon the Casting Committee's valuable work by increasing the frequency of workshops in order to serve more of our members.
