Benefits of Bequests

Does not affect a donor's cash flow or assets during his/her lifetime

Donor determines the value of the gift and the type of assets donated, which can range from cash, stocks, bonds, real estate and tangible personal property to retirement accounts or life insurance policies

The donor's estate receives an unlimited charitable tax deduction for the full value of the donation

Donor can stipulate whether the bequest is a specific sum of money or a percentage of the estate, whether the SAG Foundation will receive the funds after all other beneficiaries have received their distributions and all estate financial obligations have been satisfied, or whether the SAG Foundation receives the funds only if the donor's primary heirs predecease the donor

Donor can stipulate how the SAG Foundation should use the gift: for a specific project or purpose or at the SAG Foundation's discretion, where the need is greatest

Donor can choose whether the donation is an endowed gift, in which the SAG Foundation is directed to maintain the principal and use only the income it generates

Certain assets, such as retirement plans or life insurance policies, might be subject to income and estate taxes if bequeathed to heirs; these taxes are eliminated in bequests to the SAG Foundation and the SAG Foundation receives the bequest free of probate

As a provision in a will, a bequest can be changed at any time prior to the donor's death

Offers support for the SAG Foundation which, depending upon the donor's wishes, can be anonymous or recognized posthumously
